orange - the new red?

You ask yourself-- "orange? Hmm.. no thank you". For me, orange, when worn right is the perfect alternative to the classic red lip. It gives any outfit the perfect punch and has just the right attitude- a little funky and pulls together a look without it being too girlie. I absolutely love how Jcrew has done it here...

I know it's a bit early to be talking about Spring, but I've been eyeing both these shoes for quite some time now. I can just picture them now, with cute ankle pants... too bad the price tag on these are so high!

a sweet treat - making french macarons

Ah, the french macaron. I can now say I have conquered the french macaron. After three trials and tons of research (tons), I've finally made a successful batch of these little treats!

Almond Macaron with Chocolate Marscapone filling

In order to make these macarons you must have everything just right, and the most important thing-- the batter. It has to be the perfect consistency for the macarons to turn out with the hard crusted top, the feet, and the chewy soft center. It was overall a very fun experience and I am looking forward to making many other flavors!

Kate Beckinsale has got to be one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood, in my opinion. I love how she can look so stunning and beautiful on the red carpet or at events, and still look effortlessly cool and casual on the day to day.

a sweet treat - vintage neapolitan marshmallows

My sister came across these super cute vintage marshmallows on Etsy a while back. They're cute, delicious little treats but they can be kinda pricey - so why not try to make them yourself (that is, if you have the time)... so that is what we did this past weekend. You can find the recipes for the chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry layers online. Beware though, these are the recipes for the full batch, so you should cut it in half if you don't want a ton of these little sugary treats. We ended up making the mistake of not halving it and ended up with a ton, but it turned out just fine because we were able to give some away to our friends!

The recipe we used said to let the layers set for about four hours before you spread on the next layer, but you really don't have to wait that long... we waited about half an hour to an hour to put on the next layer and it turned out fine.

These will be perfect to make around the Holidays to give as gifts with little packets of hot chocolate.

We even had a little extra chocolate mixture so we just made small chocolate marshmallows and they are the perfect little sweet snack - I've been popping them in my mouth all weekend when I need to satisfy a sweet little craving.
